Roundup with Dakota - 6/2/10 - Summertime Brings Great Shows
Posted On 06/12/2010 13:21:34 by Dakota
AUGUSTA, GA – Well, the official kickoff to summer weekend (Memorial Day) has passed and that means it's summertime. There are lots of great things happening this summer.   We'll start with the 7 p.m. show this Friday with Hot Southern Night, starring Chris Young and Jake Owen, two great country acts. Chris is riding a No. 1 single called, “The Man I Want to Be,” which is also the name of his CD. Jake has a new single coming out called “Tell Me.” He just wrapped up the video shoot last week... Roundup with Dakota - 5/19/10 - Under Water But Still Playing
Posted On 06/12/2010 13:17:15 by Dakota
AUGUSTA, GA - It seems like lately I've been writing about Nashville a lot. Well, it is something I know a little bit about. As most of you know, Nashville was hit by a big flood a few weeks ago and they are still digging out of it.   It was one of the worst natural disasters to ever hit Tennessee. Many counties and cities were affected by the waters, not just Nashville, and there were many deaths. The damage is in the billions of dollars and it will take some time to rebuild.   It's f... Roundup with Dakota - 5/5/10 - At The End Of The Day, help is out there...
Posted On 06/12/2010 13:10:44 by Dakota
AUGUSTA, GA - I'm not sure where to start. I guess I'll start with some “up stuff” before getting into what I need to write.   Some very cool shows are coming to Augusta including Appetite for Destruction (a Guns N' Roses tribute band) on Thursday, May 6, at The Country Club. And make plans for Mulch Brothers on Friday, May 7. They've had great success on XM & Sirius radio. Also, singer Brandon Pruitt will be at the CC on Saturday, May 22.   Sky City has some great shows going on,... Read More

Roundup with Dakota - 4/21/10 - Does A Mickey Mouse Know Country Music

"Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work it until it's done and done right." —Walt Disney   “HA!” – Dakota West    AUGUSTA, GA – I'm writing this a week after Masters and I'm still worn out. That one week will take a toll on you if you have to work the entire time. And even if you're the one partying the entire time.   I enjoyed seeing old friends Cowboy Troy and Ty Herndon and meeting new friends comedian George Lopez and NFL's all-time leading... Read More

Roundup with Dakota - 4/7/10 - Masters Week with Tiger but no Hootie
Posted On 06/12/2010 12:56:37 by Dakota
AUGUSTA, GA – Masters Week is finally here. It's the week that most people who don't have to work get out of town and give their houses up to people they don't know just so they can pay their yearly mortgage. It's the time when everything is green and it's not because of the Masters but the pollen. It's the time where you meet new people from out of town and hope they leave the area loving Augusta.   There is a lot of hubbub about this year's Masters since Tiger Woods is making his “comeba... "I'm gonna be a superstar musician, kill myself and go out in a flame of glory, just like Jimi Hendrix.” — Kurt Cobain

AUGUSTA, GA – I just happened to come across a 1998 documentary the other night called “Kurt & Courtney” that details the life of singer Kurt Cobain and his relationship with his wife, Courtney Love.   Funny part is, I was watching it on the week that Kurt Cobain would have turned 43. The thought that the former frontman of Nirvana, considered to be the... Read More

Posted On 04/18/2010 10:15:32 by kmattlin
This is it. The HIT product in computing of all time. Apple's IPad will take the country by storm and establish a new computer category called TABSLATES. Some of us have been calling these new computers tablets and others have called them slates hence the new category TABSLATES.
As we speak, some school districts are already ordering them for their textbooks. Look how easy to update to the latest print edition. Just upgrade the software for the textbook. No more obsolete textbooks. ... Read More

Roundup with Dakota
Posted On 03/30/2010 13:35:46 by Dakota
You may remember me from the radio. I was the voice on Augusta airwaves for years, telling people exactly what I thought. No holds barred.   But, for those of you who may not know me, I'm just a guy from Alabama who now calls the CSRA home. A guy who just happens to be in the music business. Some background on me... I was born in South Carolina to a Marine who moved us across the country. At an early age, my family made our home in Tuscumbia, Ala., just outside of Muscle Shoals, Ala. (Yes,... Read More

Book Giveaway and Q&A with Local Author

Hey Everyone!

Are you looking for something to read?  I've got just the book for you: Laughing with Sarah by Augusta-area author/pastor Gene Jennings!

Following Christ is a journey. It's a series of mountaintops and valleys. Most of the time, we are somewhere in between. There are times when God shows us something so unbelievable that we, like Sarah in Genesis, laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. There are also times when he moves us so profoundly that we can... Anatomy of a Good Day

Anatomy of a Good Day          Now as I look back over the last several years of my life I can see a turning in my life that took me down a road I don't like very much. That day was known in my home as “Groundhog Day”. Ever see that movie? It's the story of a self centered perpetual Pessimist who gets stuck in February 2nd day after day. It's a truly great movie. It was the story of my life for years. Except that in the movie the lead character, Phil Conners, starts a pr... Read More

Now is the time to buy real estate!
Posted On 02/07/2010 08:38:23 by RealtorLiz
Our real estate market has remained more steady than most of the the country. This is a huge advantage for buyers and sellers. For sellers, this means that their real estate investment was solid. For buyers, this is especially good. Interest rates are exceptionally low right now and the home buyer's tax credit is a fabulous. Buyer's must be under contract by April 30th to be eligible for the tax credit (which is an actual check that you receive for up to $8000.00!) If you are considering the pur... Read More

Misconceptions
Posted On 02/06/2010 13:00:13 by mattames
The other night, I was in Atlanta, GA to watch some wrestling.  While I was there, I came across some people who had my stereotypical wheels spinning. One of these people was a street preacher.  Technically, I guess he was a parking lot preacher, but you get the drift.  He was across from Centennial Park, and I caught what I believe to be the end of his message.  He presented the Gospel and was telling any listening ear what they could do in order to not go to Hell.... Furniture Store and Place of Worship

I remember the first time I drove past the side of an IKEA on my way to Charlotte, NC.  I saw a big, blue building with yellow letters on it, but I didn't know much about it.  Days later, I heard a friend get excited about going there on a Charlotte trip she was taking.  It seems like I've heard about IKEA regularly since then; even seeing it in the movie (500) Days of Summer.    IKEA, you have my attention.    None of this made me really want . . . The SarcMark: Asking My English Teacher

Dot + circle + swirl=sarcasm???   According to the folks at Sarcasm, Inc., that's how you make the SarcMark. You may have heard of the newest addition to the punctuation family last week, and at $1.99 per download, a way to express sarcasm is raking in some serious cash.    The SarcMark is gaining attention in news reports and across the ‘net.  Allow Jimmy Kimmel's stunt double to show you how it works. . . The Masters... Priceless
Posted On 01/19/2010 00:54:50 by Grapevine
The one that happens every year, starting most of the time during the month of March, sometimes before, people start asking “Can you get me Master's tickets?”  First there are no Master's tickets, they are badges, not tickets.  Second, when most ask this question it should be “Can you get me in the Master's for free?”  So now that we have that out of the way the answer would be yes… but it will cost you!  There are some people in Augusta that are lucky enough to have badges f...
